Postproduction Peer Review

THE GROUP WE REVIEWED:

The project I peer reviewed was action-packed and full of plot twists which is a feature I really enjoyed. The group also featured various elements of cinematography. This showed that their cinematographer had planned specific shots they wanted to implement and carried them out effectively. For example, the over-the-shoulder shot of Elijah’s character approaching the grave exhibits professional recording skills. The editing also is very professionally done. The parallel editing between the two main characters fighting, and Chase’s character starting the car is very visually appealing. As a viewer, you can tell that this group worked hard on their project. They had a vision and executed it very effectively!

Though this group did a very good job, there are always improvements that can be made. There are a few long pauses throughout that I feel could be trimmed down. These occur during Sean’s character’s voiceover during the black screen, and when Elijah’s character is looking at his phone, before Gil’s call. These awkward moments can be fixed super easily! I also think the audio in the beginning is a bit muffled because of the wind. However, my group and I experienced this challenge as well, and we understand the difficulties of avoiding it. Maybe just making the audio a bit louder in the very first scene would be beneficial. However, overall, this group did an amazing job!

MY GROUP'S ROUGH CUT:

GRACIE BISSELL'S FEEDBACK:
"Starting off with the positives, the storyline of the video is sentimental and creative. Right of the bat I can feel the emotion that was intended which is not always the case for some videos. Something I noticed right away was the music. Music is a great way to help your audience feel emotion, and the song choice was excellent to do that. Another positive aspect to the video is that the audience can understand exactly what is going on. It is clear and their is no confusion. All the mise en scene and cinematography elements are there, and it flows very nicely. Overall it is a great and entertaining video.
Some of the limited feedback I can give is that there are no opening credits yet. Obviously, the video is a rough cut and is not finalized just yet but that is something I noticed. There is not to much I could say, but something that came to mind for me was that I wish there would have been something to leave the audience wanting more. Yes, it is a video introduction and not a short film. However, towards the end of your video I think there could have been something to really pull it all together. Overall, off the bat there is not anything specific that needs to be fixed or changed. The video great, just adding those titles in there is all you need."

MY REFLECTION:
Overall, I definitely agree with Gracie's feedback. Because the version she saw was just a rough cut, there is still much to be done in terms of editing our sequence and its continuity. I am so glad that Gracie mentioned how our video was easy to follow, and did not leave her confused. This was one of our biggest worries, as we found it hard to portray the plot in such little time. However, I guess we were successful! A big thing that is missing from our rough cut is our credits and titles, which we have been working on getting completed. If everything goes according to plan, our final cut will be a lot more cohesive and visually appealing. However, with Gracie's feedback in mind, I would say we are on the right track!
