    1. Within our film opening sequence, there are various genre conventions exhibited. We wanted to ensure that our film followed teenagers going through formative changes in their lives. This is a vital feature of coming-of-age films. Furthermore, we combined aspects of various themes commonly portrayed in coming-of-age films. We mixed the loss of a mentor trope, the loss of innocence, and the impact of large changes to develop the plot of our opening sequence. Regarding the representation of groups, our three main characters each have very specific personalities and roles in our movie. Their personalities are arguably stereotypical. Stella portrays an edgy, angsty teen dealing with a lot of emotions. Julia shows the more lighthearted, fun best friend. Finally, Caroline represents the older sister, or the “mentor” figure. Additionally, the film is centered around teenagers and represents the life of a teen girl. However, it shows a darker side of teen life that deals with greif and depression. The opening sequence shows the stresses brought about by loss within a family. It emphasizes family tensions and distress.

When we began the project, we looked at the list of transitions and chose the six that seemed like the most fun to record. These included a freeze frame, cutting on action, flashback, shot/reverse shot, match cut, and fade out. We then went out to record each one and the ideas just came to us as we went. In doing this, we learned the "behind the scenes" of crafting each type of editing technique. After each clip was recorded, we had to edit them.   Me and my classmate Ava were given the task of choosing a prompt , and then planning, shooting, and editing a photograph to portray this prompt. The prompt we chose was “ y ou are struggling to keep up in dance class.” To respond to this prompt, we planned to take a photo of me doing a dance move poorly , with my dance classmates behind me doing it perfectly .            I do feel that it is a filmmaker's responsibility to  represent  groups of people correctly.  That is u nless they are making a clear statement and  representing  groups unfairly on purpose  to show that it is wrong . This is because movies and shows are often perceived as  an alternate  reality. If viewers see certain groups of people  having improper  represent ation,  whether that is based on their gender, race, or an other  demographic , it will be taken as discrimination or oppression of sorts,  and  rightfully so.    In the recent past, I would say filmmakers have done a n increasingly  better job at  representing   different groups  fairly.
