Production, Distribution, and Exhibition

If I were producing, distributing, and exhibiting my own film, I would have large ambitions for the project. In terms of production, I would prefer the film be produced on a smaller scale. This is ideal under my circumstances because it would allow for the most creative freedom. I also do not anticipate making a film for the theatrical market, so the smaller scale method would better suit my goals. This goes hand in hand with my desire for an independent financing. As it would be unrealistic and difficulty to get a studio  to finance my film, this approach would be better. Also, my film would not need the budget that large scale, studio productions call for. This is because I would like to focus more on the story and its artistic implications than how the film itself looks. Due to my smaller budget, I would likely get people I know/ local actors to star in my film, as they would require less pay. There are obviously many other concerns when producing a movie, such as props, sets, filming, etc. However, I believe the production process would run most smoothly under the circumstances set above.

Moving on to the distribution process, I would take the responsibility of distributing my film, due to the small scale production route. However, because the film's distribution is my responsibility, I would not have to worry about a distribution company making money off of it. If the film has a successful release, I would be able to reap most of the profit. My release would take a digital form, likely using a website such as Youtube. I would also advertise it digitally using social media platforms like Instagram or Tiktok.

I could also make posters/flyers and hang them in local towns. This method of advertising would be cheap, but still yield some viewership. Distributing my film by myself would be difficult, but doable if I go about it in this way.

Finally, like I said before, my film would have a non-theatrical exhibition. People would view it on Youtube, or other sites that are similar. Whether or not the film is successful will directly relate to if my advertising worked. Ideally, the film would "blow up" on Tiktok or Instagram, attracting the attention of people all around the world. Any money received from the success of the movie would go to me directly. I would then use this money to pay my fellow filmmakers and cast. I would not expect the film to make any ancillary revenue, as I am not merchandising or selling it to streaming services. However, if it were to become popular enough to make DVDs of or stream on any bigger platform, I would love to take that opportunity.
